Bhubaneswar: With the five-year tenure of 22 civic bodies coming to an end, the state government has appointed administrators for these Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), including municipal corporations.
The Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department has issued a series of notifications in this regard. As per Constitutional mandate, the elected representatives of these bodies cannot function beyond their five-year tenure.
The five-year tenure of Phulbani municipality and G Udayagiri NAC expires December 9, which is a holiday (Sunday). Therefore, the state government Friday appointed administrators for these two ULBs. While Kandhamal district Collector has been appointed as administrator for Phulbani municipality, Baliguda Sub-Collector is the administrator for G Udayagiri NAC, a senior official of H&UD told Orissa POST.
Similarly, administrators have been appointed for other 20 ULBs, whose term expired December 4, 2018. Earlier, officers were appointed for 66 ULBs, whose five years term expired September 29, 2018, including Berhempur Municipal Corporation, he said.
The state government has appointed administrators for these ULBs as per the provisions in the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act-2003 and Odisha Municipal Act-1950, the official said.
