Barang: An African lion died inside the safari of Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP), on outskirts of the city here, Wednesday.
“The eight-year-old male lion was doing well until Tuesday when it showed the sign of weakness. Despite efforts of the veterinarians the mammal breathed its last at 8.30am,” NZP deputy director Jayant Kumar Das said.
The exact reason behind the lion’s death would be ascertained after arrival of the autopsy report from OUAT, Das added.
With death of the animal, the total number of lions at NZP’s safari dropped to 12 which include seven male and five female lions.
The lion was among the three lions and four zebras which NZP had received as gifts from Tel Aviv Zoo in Israel November 24, 2015.
Notably, another male lion had died at NZP August 10.
