After father, software engineer son becomes a victim of COVID-19 in Ganjam district

Digapahandi: A 37-year-old engineer succumbed to the COVID-19 virus here in Ganjam district Monday. Tragically, less than a month back his father also fell prey to the COVID-19, virus, July 14. The deceased has been identified as U Satyanarayan Rao of Bazar Sahi in Digapahandi area.

Satyanarayan was working as a senior software engineer at ‘CA Technology’, a Bangalore-based company. He had come here to perform the rituals for his deceased father. He was to return Bangalore after completion of the rituals. But then destiny had a cruel end in store for him also.

After the completion of his father’s rituals, Satyanarayan developed fever. His swab samples were sent for testing and he tested positive for COVID-19. He was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. “He breathed his last as he was undergoing treatment there,” informed his family members.

Notably, Ganjam district Monday reported 233 fresh cases of COVID-19 and six deaths. The district’s tally of infected persons has now gone up to 13,088. Of them, 10,573 patients have so far recovered from the disease and 2,370 are still undergoing treatment. The COVID-19 death toll in the district stands at 137 while eight patients have so far died due to reasons other than coronavirus.
