After Orangutan, Nilgiri langur dies in Nandankanan zoo

Naraj: A male Nilgiri langur died at Nandankanan Zoo Friday, a day after the lone orangutan in the nation breathed his last at the same zoo. The Nilgiri was 17 years old.

The animal, which was brought along with his female partner from Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai September 26, 2017 under an exchange programme, had been suffering from diarrhea and fever since May 17.  OUAT experts and veterinary doctors had been treating him.

However, the langur did not respond to treatment and died at around 6.30am in the morning. With its death, the female langur is the only animal of its kind left in the zoo.

This on the verge of extinction species is indigenous to southern-western Nilgiri Mountains.
