Ahead of Raksha Bandhan brother, sister found dead

Bargarh: Just two days ahead of the Rakhi festival signifying the bond between a brother and sister, a 24-year-old youth and his 21-year-old sister were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their house Friday morning.

The bone-chilling incident was reported from Singhapali under Attabira police limits in Bargarh district.

The deceased have been identified as Bikash Meher and his sister Minati Meher, children of Dasarathi Meher. The reason behind their deaths is yet to be ascertained.

After getting information, police personnel reached the village and launched a probe. The bodies have been seized and sent for autopsy to Bargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH).

According to sources, Dasarathi has three children – Bikash, Minati and Ankita. As usual, the family went to bed Thursday evening after dinner. While the three siblings slept in one room, their parents went to sleep in an adjacent room.

Ankita woke up at 5am to attend the call of nature. The girl then tried to wake up Minati to accompany her. When she did not wake up, the girl then tried to wake up her elder brother.

However, there was no response from the two. Terrified, Ankita rushed to her parents’ room and woke them up.

Later, Dasarathi and his wife reached the spot and tried to wake up Minati and Bikash again, but to no avail. They then informed the neighbours who called the police.

It was not properly known whether the siblings had committed suicide or were killed by someone. The sudden death of the siblings spread a pall of gloom in the area ahead of the Raksha Bandhan celebration.

When contacted, the police said nothing could be ascertained from the spot. A probe was underway and the arrival of post-mortem report would unravel the mystery.

A few weeks back, two Class X girls – Laxmipriya Das and Priyanka Das – who were best friends, were found dead under mysterious circumstances at Tentei under Anantapur panchayat of Soro block in Balasore district.
