New Delhi: Even after a very poor show in last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state under the leadership of the party’s state unit chief Niranjan Patnaik, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Monday desisted from taking any decision against Patnaik.
The grand old party Monday announced dissolution of the party’s state unit and all Congress committees constituted for the last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
According to an AICC statement, the party president has dissolved all office bearers of the Pradesh Congress Committee. However, the party won’t change president Niranjan Patnaik, who had even resigned from the post after the party’s miserable show in elections, and working presidents Pradeep Majhi and Chiranjib Biswal.
“The Congress president has dissolved the PCC office bearers and all other committees constituted for the recently-held Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha with immediate effect. The president and the working presidents of Odisha PCC shall remain unchanged,” AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said.
The party had performed very poorly in Parliament and Assembly elections in the state. It had contested last elections under the leadership of Niranjan Patnaik. It won only one Lok Sabha seat and nine Assembly seats. Taking moral responsibility for the defeat, Patnaik had resigned from the post but the party high command had refused to accept his resignation.
