Muniguda: Yet another incident of patients being ferried to hospitals on cots and slings has surfaced in the state decimating tall claims of the government on improving infrastructure in remote areas.
According to reports, poor road condition forced relatives of an ailing Dangaria woman to carry her in a sling for 15 kilometres to avail medical facilities Friday. The incident was reported from Denguni village under Muniguda tehsil of Rayagada district.
According to a source, Hundari Sikaka had not been keeping well for past two weeks. Family members could not take her to the nearby hospital as the roads are highly damaged due to incessant rain in the area.
However, her condition deteriorated Friday. Knowing it to their experience that seeking an ambulance at their place would be near impossible, the arranged a sling and carried Hundari in it.
“We carried her for 10 kilometres from where we usually get an ambulance. There we called up for an ambulance but when it did not turn up even after a long wait, we had little option but to carry the sling again for the remaining five kilometres to reach Muniguda government hospital,” said Malati Sikaka, a relative.
However, the doctors at the hospital immediately attended her. “She was diagnosed to be severe anemic and hence was shifted to Rayagada district headquarters hospital,” informed Muniguda medical officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar.
