Keonjhar: A female elephant undergoing treatment at Uparasumatha forest under Bhuyan-Juanga-Pidha forest range in Keonjhar district for the last ten days, died Monday.
Confirming the death, a forest official said the jumbo died Monday morning. Her carcass will be buried after an autopsy.
An expert team from Similipal sanctuary, a team of Wildlife Trust of India and a veterinary team had been treating the pachyderm. While the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, deterioration of her health condition is said to be due to age related ailments.
The ailing pachyderm was first spotted by some local villagers September 28 who then informed the forest department.
On reaching the spot, the forest department officials started treatment, administering her with saline. The blood sample of the elephant has already been sent to the lab, and the report is still awaited, it was learnt.
