Ailing tusker dies at Kamakhyanagar

Kamakhyanagar: An ailing tusker which was undergoing treatment at Patharkhamb village under Kamakhyanagar West (KNW) Forest Range in Dhenkanal district died Saturday.

Confirming the elephant death, KNW Ranger Bibhudanand Mishra said the elephant was found dead near the foothills of Landabir area. The pachyderm was 40 at the time of death, he added.

The elephant was spotted in critical condition by forest officials near Landabir hill July 29 following which they have rescued it by firing tranquilizers. Though the elephant had been released in the forest after medication at that time, it was under constant observation by forest officials due to an ongoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Veterinary officials have reached the spot and examined the dead elephant.
