Malkangiri: A woman, suffering from high fever had to be carried Saturday on a sling for nearly seven kilometres due to the lack of proper road connectivity at Goiguda in Malkangiri district.
Family members carried the women to the main road where an ambulance was waiting for her which took her to the hospital. The condition of the woman is stated to be normal after treatment.
According to sources, Sambari Badanayak of Goiguda village has been suffering from health issues for the last few days. However, her condition turned critical Saturday morning following which family members immediately contacted the emergency ambulance services.
The ambulance driver tried to reach the ailing woman’s resident. However, pitiable road conditions prevented him from doing so. Hence he was forced to park his vehicle on the main road. He then called the woman’s family members and asked them to carry her to the ambulance. With no option left, her family members prepared a sling and carried her to the ambulance which then took her to the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital.
Repeated incidents of ambulance failing to reach patients due to unavailability of proper roads have become a cause of concern. Many have lost their lives as they have not been able to reach medical facilities on time.
It is indeed a matter of sadness that even after 72 years of Independence many villages are deprived of proper medical facilities due to the bad road conditions.
