Odia girl Satavisa Das has made the state proud by qualifying for the finals of Junior Model International Pageant 2018. Hailing from Bhubaneswar, 11-year-old Satavisa is among 44 contestants, who will participate in the grand finale of the beauty contest, scheduled to be held May 14 at Calicut, Kerala. Orissa POST interacted with this very talented girl at her residence. Excerpts:
What inspired you to compete in this pageant?
Well, I was very inspired by Padmalaya Nanda who won the crown in 2017.Her success as an Odia girl inspired me to participate in the Pageant. Above all, it was my mother Subhashree Das and my dance guru Sonali Mohapatra who inspired me to compete for this title.
What are the openings for the winners of the Pageant?
There are four titles to be won and the winners will be sent to other countries to participate in beauty contests for Little Miss Universe, Little Miss World, Junior International Model and Little Miss Queen titles.
What kind of preparations have you done?
I have honed my Odissi dancing skills and brushed up my GK. Besides, I read every kind of newspaper and learning more about my own state Odisha and national current affairs. Above all, my grooming teacher Sarda Bharati Sir has groomed my personality.
Do you feel such contests are more about talent?
Yes, of course. 890 girls participated from all over India. However, in the semi-final round only 100 were there and all of us had to demonstrate our dancing or music skills, give a personality test, talent test and based on that only 44 qualified for the finals.
How do your school teachers feel about it?
Being a class-VI student of Sai International, I am very proud to be a part of the competition and all my teachers are very happy and are constantly encouraging me to win the sash.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I am a book worm and my favorite author is Ruskin Bond. Besides, Odissi dance is my full-time passion.
