Air Odisha cancels flights at VSS airport, locals fume

Jharsuguda: Just three or four days after launching flight services from the newly inaugurated Veer Surendra Sai airport here in Jharsuguda, the Air Odisha flight which is providing the service under UDAN scheme has cancelled the air service since last three days from Tuesday, a report said.

While, it was said that the air service would remain cancelled for two days, the cancellation of flight on the third day has spread resentment among the locals. People here expressed their dissatisfaction over the pathetic attitude of the service provider.

Meanwhile, the reason of the cancellation of the flight service is yet to be known.

Till September 22 when PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Veer Surendra Sai airport, people were hopeful that the airport would make a difference.

However, soon after the inauguration, the Air Odisha’s service has not only been found unsatisfactory, the very purpose of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme also seems to be far from being fulfilled, a local complained.

While the company has already earned a bad name for its service being not up to the mark, it seems Air Odisha has drastically failed in keeping the hope and faith of the State and Central government, alleged Shankar Patel, a local resident.

Locals demanded the intervention of both Central and State government to streamline the service, or else people will lose faith on government-provided services, Patel added.

When contacted, airport director, S K Chauhan said the flight service has remained cancelled since Tuesday. The company is yet to cite the reason as to why the service is withdrawn and is yet to take a decision as to when the service would be resumed.
