Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda airport added another feather to its cap after the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted it license to operate Airbus-320 category flights from the airport, a report said Tuesday.
Sudesh Kumar Chouhan, director of Jharsuguda airport, disclosed this to the media here Tuesday. He said, “A 4C category license is required to operate Airbus-320 type flights from the airport which was received by us Tuesday.”
This has spread cheers among the fliers, who are expecting to board a flight from the airport soon. Earlier, the airport had received the 2B category of license in the month of May. With this, the airport has received the two licenses essential for operation of flights from the airport.
The airport is now ready for flight operation from after receiving the license, but awaiting the nod from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry for commencing flight operation, he said.

The airport was in need of the 4C category license before resumption of Airbus-320 and Boeing-737 flight services.
Two special teams of DGCA and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) visited Jharsuguda and conducted a detailed verification of the provisions at the airport June 28 and June 29. The BCAS team verified the security provisions of the airport, while a team from DGCA verified existing infrastructure provisions in the airport.
The two teams, led by their senior officers, made detailed checking of the airport’s ATS tower, emergency medical services, runway and electrification of the runway, security posts, terminals, towers, drinking water facilities, roads and other miscellaneous provisions in the airport during the two days. Later, the two teams prepared a detailed report and submitted it to the DGCA authorities for examination.
The DGCA authorities made detailed examination of the report and gave its approval for operation of Airbus-320 and Boeing-737 category flights from the airport. The DGCA authorities have granted the 4C category of license to the airport, Chouhan added.
