Akankhya, Sidhanth in Indian varsity chess teams

Bhubaneswar: Akankhya Kabi of KIIT and IM Sidhant Mohapatra of Fakir Mohan University have found a place in the women’s and men’s Indian teams for the World University Chess Championship to be played September 12-18 in Aracauj, Brazil.

The players were selected on the basis of their performances in a selection trial at the KIIT University premises here, Wednesday. Each team have four players. Besides Akankhya other members of the women’s team are Sanjana Joeel, Shreya Anekar and Rutuja Desai of SP Pune University. Sribrinda Rout of KIIT and T Bigna Shree of Osmania University are women’s team standbys.

In the men’s team the other selected players are J Sai Agni Jeevitesh of Osmania University, Nikhil Dixit and Mohit Ranvir of SP Pune University. Sanjan Kumar Nayak of KIIT and Pimpalkhare Vedant of SP Pune University have been chosen as standbys.

2 from Odisha

Poonam Nayak and Indrani Chhatria of Odisha have been selected Wednesday for a U-19 National Women’s training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, August 1-25. Both were selected for the camp on the basis of their stellar performances for East Zone in the recently-concluded U-19 Women’s Inter-Zonal ODI cricket tournament.
