Bhubaneswar: Akash Mohapatra emerged champion of the inaugural All Odisha 6Red Snooker Championships defeating Jiten Sarangi 7-1 in a completely lopsided contest which concluded at the 6Pockets Club here, Tuesday.
In the semifinals played earlier in the day, Akash defeated Subrat Das 6-2 while Jiten got the better of Akram Khan with an identical margin. Akash pocketed a prize money of Rs 10,000 while Jiten bagged Rs 5,000.
Odisha blank Chhattisgarh
Odisha eves spanked Chhattisgarh 5-0 in their campaign opener of the National Senior Women National Football Championships at the Ravenshaw University Groun in Cuttack, Tuesday.
In other matches, Indian Railway humiliated Himachal Pradesh 14-0 while Indian Football Association (IFA) of West Bengal routed Andhra Pradesh 12-0 and Haryana outplayed Karnataka 10-0.
YUC thrash Kishore Club
Young Utkal Club (YUC) thrashed Kishore Club 4-0 in a match of the FAO 1st division League football tournament at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Tuesday.
YUC opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Rakesh Sahoo and maintain the advantage at the break. After the restart, YUC added three more goals through Tapan Singh (59th and 70th minutes) and Dinabandhu Das (77th).
Eves thump Punjab
Elima Minz (second, fourth) scored a brace as Odisha started their 5-a-side Senior Women’s National Hockey Championships campaign with a thumping 6-3 win against Punjab on the opening day at Bangalore, Tuesday.
Besides Elima, Mariana Kujur (third), Ajmina Kujur (10th), Mariana Kujur (11th) and Rashmita Minz (13th) found the target for the winning side. Narinder Kaur (first, seventh and ninth) struck all three goals for the losing side.
Judo cluster meet
The All India Judo Cluster Championships will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Hall and Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall in Cuttack, November 15-19. As many as 1,200 participants from 40 teams will take part in the five-day event.
