Bhubaneswar, August 11: Maharishi Daredevils is set to replicate last year’s success by performing at this year’s Independence Day parade at Mahatma Gandhi Marg in the capital city.
The team had created history last year by launching an all-women’s daredevil team. This year, the men’s and women’s teams will showcase their presentations based on the themes of ‘national integration’ and ‘respect to the national flag’, according to organisers.
“This time, 81 boys and girls will participate in the national flag formation where a team of 32 girls on five motorcycles will lead from the front in such a manner that it will create an illusion of a fluttering National Flag. Behind them will follow a team of 47 boys on seven motorcycles. The one in the centre will have 11 riders including the pilot, and the theme will be a depiction of tolerance for all religions, with symbolic representations of all major faiths,” says founder adviser and Flying Officer Mihir Ranjan Saran.
There are around 40 girls in the women’s team, which was formed by Chinmayee Bhuyan.
“This is for the fourth time that I will be participating with the group. Last time I didn’t participate during Republic Day. Thanks to my family who have always supported me and allowed me to join the group. From childhood, I was interested in riding bikes and my father is the one who taught me how to ride one. Chinmayee didi and Mihir sir were the inspiration behind joining the group,” says 19-year-old Sital Begum, a member of Maharishi Daredevils.
“I am one of the five girls who will be riding the bikes, and there will be five girls perched on my bike,” Begum said.
The team is now actively participating in various awareness programmes by conducting rallies and street plays. They have also been awarded with Prakruti Mitra, Best Daredevil, Duradarshree Krida Sanmana, Orissa Mirror Award, and Most Promising Youth Award.
