Ambulance carrying COVID-19 patients overturns in Kandhamal, three injured

Phulbani: An ambulance carrying COVID-19 patients from Daringbadi area in Kandhamal district to a COVID-19 hospital in the district overturned in an agricultural field after a hitting a tree Thursday.

Four persons including three patients and the driver of the Ambulance sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Locals said the accident took place at 10:00am while the ambulance carrying three patients, who were confirmed positive earlier in the day, were being taken to the COVID-19 hospital in Kandhamal district. The four-wheeler overturned after hitting a tree on the side of a village road.

After the mishap, locals called the police. On being informed, local police reached the spot and registered a case regarding the incident.

A police team after wearing PPE kits rescued the injured and sent them to the COVID-19 hospital with the help of another ambulance.

The accident spot and the ambulance were sanitised to minimise risk of COVID infection. A probe would be initiated to ascertain the circumstances which led to the mishap, police said.
