Nabarangpur: A woman turned critical due to post-delivery complications as an ambulance failed to reach her home as ambulance failed to reach Nagajodi village under Tohra panchayat in the district Friday.
The victim, identified as Bijra Santa, 30, complained of labour pain Thursday morning following which her relatives called 102 Janani Express and 108 NHM ambulance but none of them turned up at her house owing to poor road connectivity to the village.
Later, the victim delivered a baby boy at her house in the day. However, as if it was not the end of the plight for the victim she needed immediate blood transfusion due to excess bleeding. Finding no other option, the woman’s relatives carried her on a cot to Kursi PHC from where she was shifted to Umerkote CHC and subsequently to Nabarangpur DHH, sources said.
The relatives have claimed that they had brought the woman back to their house after the DHH officials demanded Rs 5,000 for blood transfusion but later got her admitted there with the help of some ASHA workers, they added.
As per latest reports, the woman is out of danger after the blood transfusion.
