Bhubaneswar: Ameek Kiran Batth of Odisha won the U-18 girls’ singles title defeating Satavisa Ghosh of West Bengal in the final of the BTA-AITA Championship tennis tournament at BTA tennis complex in Kolkata, Tuesday.

Ameek won the one-sided encounter 6-2, 6-1. She dominated the match from the beginning and never allowed her opponent to settle down. A strong baseline game helped Ameek break her rival’s serve five times during the match.

Four eves selected

Odisha footballers Pyari Xaxa (Sundargarh), Jabamani Tudu (Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar), Lochona Munda and Manisha Panna (both ECoR) have been selected Tuesday for the national senior women’s team’s coaching camp, for the Asian Games, in Bangalore June 20-30.

Chess tourney

The Odisha State Chess Association (OSCA) and PP Academy of Science & Technology will jointly organise the State Schools’ Open Chess Championships June 22-24 here. The tournament will comprise a total of seven rounds in the Swiss System. All the school students up to standard XII are eligible to participate in the event.

Shooting meet

In a bid to promote shooting in Odisha, the Odisha Rifle Association will organise the Ist Pre State Level Shooting Championships in Bhubaneswar, July 5-8. It will be an open category meet, comprising three segments – junior (14-21 years), senior (21-55 years) and veteran (55-plus men and 45-plus women). The participants can take part in air rifle, air pistol, 25m pistol and 50m .22 rifle events.
