Bhubaneswar: The AMRI Hospital launched its advanced trauma centre here Tuesday. The facility was launched in the presence of Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma, Commissioner of Police Satyajit Mohanty, AMRI-Bhubaneswar Unit Head and VP CLN Reddy, and AIEM HOD Sajid Nomani.
Addressing the gathering, Reddy said, “Keeping in view the growing number of trauma victims in the state and its prolonged consequences on the victim, family, community and state as a whole, AMRI launched this trauma centre, which will be the first-of-its-kind in Odisha. The centre will provide multi-specialty approach to trauma victims and work towards curbing mortality rate and disability of the victims. It will also work towards spreading awareness, preparedness and response to such incidents in order to lessen their impact on the victims.”
During the launching ceremony it was revealed that road accidents along with other causes of trauma have emerged as a new health challenge in India. This ‘modern day epidemic’ is highly prevalent in India, which accounts for one-fifth of global deaths due to road accidents. In Odisha, there were more than 4,463 deaths in 2016 – a 3 per cent rise as compared to the previous year, as per statistics of the Transport department.
The objective of the centre would be to offer quick accessibility to hospital for the trauma victims and provide them a multi-specialty clinical care within the shortest possible time, asserted Chirantan Bose, AVP Medical Administration of AMRI.
