Bhubaneswar, June 26: Amrutjay Mohanty of Orissa emerged U-12 boys’ singles champion in the AITA-OTA talent series tennis tournament beating Ritabrata Sarkar of West Bengal in the final at the Kalinga Stadium courts here Friday.
In a lop-sided final, Amrutjay prevailed over Ritabrata 6-3, 6-2. In the first set, Ritabrata offered some resistance, but in the second he just faded away.
However in the U-14 singles category, Pratyush Mohanty of Orissa had to be satisfied with a runner-up finish. In the final, he was defeated by Ashis S Sinha of Jharkhand 4-6, 2-6 in little less than an hour.
Ranji preparations
The Orissa cricket team may play three-four All India invitational tournaments as preparation for the 2015-16 Ranji season. The OCA has already confirmed the participation of the team in the Buchi Babu tournament (Chennai), Shafi Darasaha tournament (Bangalore) and another event at Pune.
“We will arrange training camps for all these tournaments very soon. The tours will start from the first week of July,” Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) stated through a press release, Friday.

Srabani, Amiya lauded
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Friday congratulated sprinters Srabani Nanda and Amiya Mallick for their bronze-winning feats in the recently concluded Asian Grand Prix Leg-II athletics meet in Bagkok. Srabani won two medals including an individual bronze and a relay bronze, while Amiya bagged a bronze in the men’s 4x100m relay.
