Ananya bags double Crown

Cuttack, August 23: Ananya Basak of Khurda emerged champions in two different categories of the 23rd YGTTA All Orissa Open Table Tennis Championship which concluded at the Barabati Stadium here Sunday.

 Ananya took the top honours in the Junior girls’ and the women’s singles events. In the first segment, she thrashed Suryasmita Aparajita of Bhubaneswar 4-0 and in the second category she smacked Samartha Prusty of Bhubaneswar 4-1.

In the cadet girls’ segment, Sushree Patnaik of Khurda clinched the title after scraping past Anusweta Hembram of RSP 3-1. In the boys’ segment, Sahil Sunder Bhuyan of Cuttack drubbed Aniket Sahu of Cuttack 3-0 to hog the limelight.

In the sub-junior girls’ category, Payal Pani of Khurda edged past Saloni Patnaik of Bhubaneswaar 4-3 to emerge champion. In the boys’ segment, Arya  Mahaprasastha of Cuttack overcame a tough fight from Sahil Sunder Bhuyan of the same town 4-3 to secure the first position.

In the junior boys segment, M Ishwar of Cuttack prevailed over Janmenjay Mohanty of RSP 4-1 to emerge champion. In the men’s singles category, Tausif Haque triumphed over Sagar Ghatge of AG Orissa 4-1 to bag the title.

In the State Inter-School Championship, ISPAT English Medium School , Rourkela and Loyala School, Bhubaneswar emerged champions in the senior boys’ and the girls’ team events respectively.

ISPAT blanked KIIT International School, Bhubaneswar 3-0, while Loyala scraped past DAV, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar 3-1.

KIIT and Stewart School, Cuttack took the top honours in the junior boys’ and the girls’ team events respectively. KIIT prevailed over DPS Kalinga, Cuttack 3-0, while Stewart got the better of DAV Chandrasekharpur 3-1.
