Pottangi: Andhra Pradesh continues to trigger unrest in the border villages under Odisha’s territory as the neighbouring state government’s officials intruded into another village under Pottangi block in Koraput district Friday and conducted a health camp.
In the latest offensive, a medical team from Salur block in Parbatipuram Manyam district visited Galigabada village in Nuagaon panchayat about 15km from Pottangi block and examined the villagers at a health camp organised Friday.
They even distributed medicines to the people attending the health camp. Furthermore, the officials gave away allowances, pension and grocery items to the village’s residents. On being informed, Pottangi block chairperson Kalpana Pangi rushed to the spot and questioned the audacity of Andhra officials to intrude into Odisha and hold health camp.
She also directed the officials to stop conducting health examinations of people and immediately leave the village. The medical team from Andhra Pradesh cancelled the health camp and left for Salur block.
Later, on being tipped off about the matter, BDO Sukant Pattnaik visited Galiagabada village and held discussions with the villagers the same day. Pattnaik once again visited the village Saturday and interacted with the villagers. He urged them not to take healthcare services provided by the neighbouring state and instead visit the local health centre.
Notably, the neighbouring state is now trying to assert itself in other bordering panchayats after drawing flak for its frequent encroachments in Kotia panchayat.
