Sukinda: An Anganwadi centre in Ransala panchayat of Sukinda block does not have a building of its own. In the absence of a proper infrastructure, the students are forced to attend classes and take their mid-day meals under the open sky.
The centre has been running in this fashion for the last nine years. Repeated pleas to the state administration by the villagers as well as the local lawmakers have fallen on deaf ears. In the absence of a proper building, there are no kitchen or toilet facilities for the students.
The Anganwadi centre was set up in 2010. Currently there are only 25 children. Their food is cooked under the open sky and at times gets polluted because of the presence of a number of factories in the locality. It has definitely affected the overall health of the children and the villagers. The cook of the centre, Sushila Hembram lamented that she if forced to carry out her duties in the open because of the lack of a proper kitchen.
The government spends crores for developing the infrastructure of Anganwadi centres, providing supplementary food and pre-primary education of the children. However, sadly this village seems to have missed the bus.
