Angry relatives force BJP ministers to remove shoes and apologise at jawan’s funeral

Union Minister Satyapal Singh (R) wears a big smile on his face as he listens to a party worker during Ajay Kumar’s cremation in Meerut, Tuesday

Meerut: Irate relatives and friends of slain CRPF jawan Ajay Kumar forced BJP ministers and a MP to remove their shoes during the trooper’s cremation Tuesday. A video of the incident has also gone viral which shows the BJP trio portraying utter insensitivity by laughing and joking while attending the crematorium to play their last respects.

In recent times, more so after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the perpetrators of the Pulwama terror attack will be brought to justice, it has become the fashion for BJP leaders and ministers to pop up in front of the bodies of the martyred soldiers to pay their last respects.

It was the same here as Union Minister Satya Pal Singh, UP minister Sidharth Nath Singh and BJP MP from Meerut Rajendra Agarwal came to attend the funeral of Kumar. But they showed utter disrespect by failing to take of their footwear before joining the relatives and friends of Kumar at the crematorium area.

The BJP trio then came under fire from the crowd. The video then shows, a member of the soldier’s family shouting at the leaders, asking them to show some respect. The leaders then apologise with folded hands and remove their shoes. But they went on laughing and talking during the entire cremation.

Kumar was among the four army men killed in an encounter with Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists in Pulwama, Monday.

However, this is not an isolated incident. A couple of days Union Minister KJ Alphons sparked off a controversy by clicking a selfie with the coffin of a CRPF trooper killed by the suicide attack.
