Pallahara: Two Anganwadi girls drowned in an abandoned well at a village under Pallahara block in Angul district Monday.
The deceased were identified as Pallavi Kishan (4), daughter of Khetrabasi Kishan and Lovely Kishan (3), daughter of Bipin Kishan, both residents of Arjunjhari Sahi under Pallahara block in Angul district. The incident has spread shockwaves in the area.
The two girls were returning home by a farmland from Aluri Anganwadi centre when they accidentally slipped their legs and fell into an abandoned well.
On being informed, their family members rescued them from the well and rushed them in an-108-ambulance to Khamar community health centre where doctors pronounced them brought dead. Khamar police registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem to Pallahara sub-divisional hospital, IIC Santosh Kumar Mirdha said.
Pallahara sub-collector Ajit Kumar Pradhan gave away Rs 10,000 from the district Red-Cross fund to each of the bereaved families and assured them of further assistance as per norms on receipt of the post-mortem report.
Man drowns in pond
Parjang: A man of Dhubulipathar Sahi under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district drowned in a village pond Monday. The deceased was identified as Dilip Nayak in the village. The mishap occurred when Dillip was taking bath with his family at a pond after laying the roof of his father-in-law’s house in the village. Dillip was taking bath on the bank of the pond while his wife and two children were on another bank when his legs slipped and he drowned. Locals rushed to the spot after his daughter raised an alarm. The villagers tried to rescue him but in vain. Fire personnel fished out his body at 3 pm. Police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem
