Angul boat mishap: Missing engineer’s body fished out after 40 hours

Angul: Two days after the tragic boat mishap in Samal Barrage of Angul district in which two employees of a contract firm had gone missing, the fire brigade and the ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) personnel fished out the body of a junior engineer Saturday morning.

Locals spotted a body floating on the water of the barrage in the morning and informed the fire brigade and the ODRAF personnel who rushed to the spot and fished out the body. It was identified as that of Ramesh Satpathy, JE, and a native of Berhampur in Ganjam district.

However, the body of Ashok Aicha, a native of Parjang block in Dhenkanal district, is yet to be found. Efforts are on to trace it, said fire brigade personnel. Ashok Aicha was working as an operator of a private company.

Five employees of a contract firm of Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack were carrying out a survey for a private company May 31 when the accident happened. While they were busy in the work, the barrage authorities opened the sluice gate at around 2.30 pm. The sudden rush of water turned the boat upside down. While three labourers managed to swim ashore, the junior engineer and the operator of the company went missing.
