Angul minor rape survivor identifies accused

Angul:  Angul police Monday recorded the statement of the eight-year-old Angul Bus stand rape victim after she returned from SCB Medical College and Hospital Sunday.

After recording her statement under section 164 of CrPC, a test identification parade (TIP) was conducted at Angul jail where the survivor, a member of nomadic family from Maharashtra camping here, clung to her relatives present after seeing her tormentor Shibu Patnaik of Amalapada, said a source.

He added that the survivor has identified Shibu as the accused. The police then handed her over to district child welfare committee.

Since the survivor is unwell with a high risk of catching infection, the CWC chairman in-charge Debashis Pattanayak directed her admission into hospital. She was subsequently admitted to the district headquarters hospital here at about 9:00pm.

Pattanayak also directed Angul police to ensure 24×7 security blanket around the minor.

“A meeting will be convened to decide where she would be kept after her complete recovery,” he informed.

Angul police station IIC Ramesh Chnadra Bisoi said the charge-sheet would be filed after arrival of scientific team report.
