Angul: In a bid to reduce electricity consumption and increase longevity of streetlights, Angul municipality Friday launched the centralised control monitoring system (CCMS) that would turn on and off the lights automatically.
The installation of CCMS ensures the LED street lights are automatically switched on at dusk and switched off at dawn.
Municipality sources said the CCMS has been installed on 62 substations coming under the municipality area. The LED streetlights at 12 places are being managed automatically as of now.
“Earlier complaints regarding streetlights being lit even after sunrise were flooding us. The earlier practice also resulted in unnecessary electricity consumption. On the other hand, the longevity of the lights was also affected. CCMS is aimed at solving this,” informed municipality executive officer Subhendu Jena.
He further informed that the CCMS nodes would be installed on each and every electricity utility pole over a period of time.
The CCMS project that started from Amalapada, has already covered Civil SDO square, Medical square and Bus Stand area. Remaining areas will be covered gradually, Jena added.
