Bhubaneswar: Aniket Tripathy (4/13) bowled brilliantly to help Paramount Sporting enter the final of the IInd Rameswar Cup U-19 cricket tournament after scripting a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Crown Sporting in the second semifinal here, Friday. Paramount will take on the Rameswar-A in the final, May 27.
Opting to bat, Crown Sporting put up a meagre total of 105 and the credit goes to man of the match Aniket who was brilliant in his six-over spell. He was ably supported by Sai Subham (3/31). For Crown, Janmejay Nayak (43, 47b) was the only batsman to offer some resistance.
In reply, Paramount comfortably notched up the target in 25.5 overs. Anshuman Sahu (36, 50b) and Sudharshan swain (30, 49b) batted well.
Town Club win
A five-wicket haul by left-arm spinner Shuva Sanket Dhal (5/34) and an unbeaten half century by Girija Mishra (66 n o) powered host Town Club to a 148-run win over Mukteswar Cricket Club (MCC) in the Inter-Club Cricket Series at the Town Club ground here, Friday.
Electing to bat, Town Club piled up a healthy total of 270 for six in the stipulated 40 overs. Prabir Nayak (2/42) was the pick of the MCC bowlers.
In reply, MCC were bowled out for 122. Prabir (33) batted well for the losing side. Man of the match Shuva was the wrecker-in-chief.
OSJA AGM
The annual general meeting of Odisha Sports Journalists’ Association took place Friday at the Press Club in Sahid Sporting Ground here.
In the meeting, it was decided that the World Sports Journalists’ Day will be celebrated in Cuttack. A proposed-workshop to be organised by Asian Sports Journalists Association during the Hockey World Cup here was also a subject of discussion. Young sports journalists of the state will be part of the workshop.
Anaam-Shilpi loses
Anaam Almas and Shilpi Swaroopa Das of Odisha finished runners-up in the women’s doubles event of the AITA 5ok Ranking tennis tournament at Gurgaon, Friday. They lost 3-6, 6-8 (8-6) to the Chandigarh pair of Ishpreet Kaur and Asmita Kaur in the final.
