Cuttack: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday raided the house of Bibekananda Biswal alias Biban, the prime accused in the Anjana Mishra gang rape case.
The investigating agency is learnt to be looking out for those who had been providing protection to Biban during the period when he was at large.
According to a source, a three-member team of CBI raided Biban’s house at Naranapur village under Barang block in Cuttack district. The sleuths interrogated Biban’s family members, interacted with the neighbours and returned with some important documents.
Earlier in the day, a two-member team of CBI had interrogated Anjana at her residence.
Notably, the gang rape took place at a place under Barang police station January 9, 1999. 17 days after the crime, the police had arrested Pradeep Sahu and Dhirendra Mohanty. But the prime accused Biban had absconded.
After 22 years, the Commissionerate Police launched an operation called ‘Silent Viper’. Subsequently, he was arrested from Pune, Maharashtra February 22 this year.
Anjana also identified him during the test identification parade inside Jharpada Special Jail in Bhubaneswar.
The CBI will soon file the charge sheet in the case, it was learnt.
