Another criminal nabbed in Angul police encounter

Angul: A couple of days after a notorious criminal Bilu Khan was nabbed following an encounter near Derjang area here in this district, his close aide Badal Rout was nabbed in a similar manner near Lingaraj mines in Talcher Wednesday night, police said.

Acting on a tip off, a special squad of Angul police intercepted Badal near Talcher MCL mines and arrested him after an encounter. Rout suffered bullet injuries on his right thigh and was admitted to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH).

After preliminary treatment, he has been shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital. Police also seized a pistol and two live bullets from his possession.

Necessary action will be taken against him after his health condition improves, an official said.

According to police, Rout, a resident of Nalagunda village in Bhadrak district was a close aide of Bilu Khan. While a police team arrested Bilu three days back, Rout gave the raid team a slip and had escaped.

Since then, the raid team was on the lookout for him. Acting on a tip-off, a team of special squad of Talcher and Angul police raided a place near Lingaraj mines where Badal was planning to execute a robbery along with his accomplice.

Sensing the movement of the cops, Rout opened fire and tried to escape from the spot. In retaliation, the cops fired back at Rout, injuring him critically in his right thigh.

However, Rout’s associate managed to escape taking advantage of the dark. Police said that several cases of loot and dacoity are pending against Rout.

It may be noted here that Bilu Khan was arrested three days back, November 19 after an encounter. He also is currently under treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
