Jajpur: A farmer allegedly committed suicide due to his loan burden and crop loss at Mangarajpur village under Dharmasala block in Jajpur district Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Gouranga Bal, son of Jayram Bal.
According to reports, Gouranga, who cultivated paddy on five acres of land, had borrowed around Rs 5 lakh from different banks and private microfinance companies.
However, he was under severe mental stress after suffering crop loss due to incessant rains.
Gouranga, who is survived by his wife and two children, was found hanging from a tree in the backyard of his house Wednesday morning.
On being informed, the police reached spot and started an investigation.
