Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a farmer allegedly committed suicide over loan burden in Arilo village under Angola panchayat in this district.
The matter came to the fore after locals spotted the farmer hanging from a tree, early today morning. The deceased has been identified as Banambar Samal.
Reportedly, Samal had cultivated paddy by borrowing loans from private moneylenders and banks. He had hoped to repay the loans after a bumper harvest. However, his hopes were dashed as he suffered severe crop loss.
Since then, he was under stress. As usual, the family went to bed after dinner Monday night.
However, Samal, woke up early in the morning and left his house on the pretext of attending nature’s call. Later, he went to a tree near the village where he hanged himself.
Locals found him hanging from a tree and immediately informed his family members.
On intimation, cops rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Family members have alleged that Samal ended his life due to loan burden and his health had been deteriorating over the past couple of days due to the pressure of loan repayment.
