Soro: In another case of social media menace, a minor girl was allegedly abducted and physically and mentally tortured by her Facebook friend, who is a minor boy.
The matter came to light after the victim’s mother, a resident of Soro, lodged a written complaint with the police who registered a case and rescued the girl from a house at Gopinathpur under Singla police limits in Balasore district.
According to the complainant, the minor boy befriended her daughter through Facebook. After frequent chats and video calls, he lured her into a relationship and called her on the pretext of meeting him.
When the girl went to meet him, he allegedly kidnapped her and kept her in a house for three months. During that period, he allegedly tortured the girl mentally and physically and raped her.
However, the boy and his family denied the allegations saying that the two had eloped together. Since then, the girl has been staying with the boy’s family and the two are living like a couple.
The police have sent the girl to a shelter home and she will be produced before the court Saturday, reports said.
“A probe is on … Necessary action will be taken after the court’s order,” the police said.
