Keonjhar: Another elephant injured in the train accident that took place July 11 near Balidanda Sahi in between Sagadapata-Tangiriapala station under Brahmanipal range of Anandpur wildlife division died Sunday. The corpse of the 8-year-old female jumbo was buried under the ground after conducting a postmortem. The pachyderm death toll now stands at three as two elephants died July 11. As per reports, the elephant was injured after a goods train hit her while her herd was crossing the railway line at 9:30 pm, July 11.
After the accident, the injured elephant fled to Rebana protected forest. The Forest department treated the elephant inside the forest but she succumbed to her injuries. It is alleged that the elephant could not be saved due to late treatment. In this regard, DFO Abhaya Kumar Dalei said that the elephant was inside the Daitari forest and died while being treated. Many steps are being taken for their safety and currently, a total of seven elephants are residing in the forest, he added. A case has been registered by the Forest department and notices have been sent to the loco-pilot and goods guard of the train. Steps will be taken after getting answers to the notices, said the ACF Prafulla Kumar Mallick.
