Mumbai: Ranu Mondal is the latest example of the power of the social media. A few days back, a video of Ranu Mondal singing at a railway station went viral on the social media.
Impressed by Ranu Mondal’s voice, singer, composer and judge of many TV reality shows Himesh Reshammiya offered her a song in his upcoming film. The musician was lauded for keeping his promise when a video of Ranu recording for Himesh was also shared by the actor-singer. He captioned the video, “Recorded ‘Teri Meri Kahani’ my new song for the film ‘Happy Hardy and Heer’ with the very talented Ranu Mondal who has a divine voice. All your our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them, a positive attitude can really make dreams come true, thanks for all your love and support.”
Meanwhile, a new video of Ranu has surfaced. In it, Ranu is singing ‘Dafliwale dafli baja’ from the film ‘Sargam’ (1979). The film featured Rishi Kapoor, Jaya Prada and Shashikala in lead roles. In the video, it seems that Ranu is sitting in a studio surrounded by people.
This original duet was sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi. It should be stated here that Ranu’s rendition of the original has also been liked by the people surrounding her.
After acquiring fame, Ranu recently appeared as a guest on Sony TV’s reality show ‘Superstar Singer’, where she described her ordeal.
Jay Bhanushali, who was hosting the show, asked Ranu as to why she sang at a railway station. Describing her plight Ranu said, “I used to sing at the railway station because I don’t have a house to live. Hearing my songs people offered me money and food and that is how I survived.” During the show, Ranu once more displayed her talent by singing in front of judges Himesh Reshammiya, Alka Yagnik and Javed Ali.
It should be mentioned here that many people had heard Ranu sing. However, it was because of Atindra Chakrabarty, she got recognition. Chakrabarty made a video of Ranu and shared it in his Facebook account. The rest as they say is history.
