Angul: Nine retired persons from different walks of life in Angul assembly constituency Wednesday distributed leaflets and sought answers from MLA Rajani Kant Singh about the lack of developmental works in the last 15 years.
Retired teacher Govind Chandra Das, agriculture officer Abhimanyu Sahu, Army officer Madhusudan Mohanty, assistant engineer Bibhuti Bhushan Patnaik, head clerk Nityanand Jena, health worker Biprabar Naik, steno Dukhabandhu Pradhan, headmaster Bidyadhar Dash and retired postal employee Janmejay Sethy wanted to know if the MLA had asked a single question related to employment, sanitation, air pollution and irrigation or taken part in a discussion in the Assembly in the last 15 years.
They also asked what steps the MLA has taken to improve the situation of Banarpal square which is a regular route for Rajani Kant Singh.
“Has the MLA had any information on how many accidents have taken place on this stretch and the number of lives they have claimed,” they asked.
They also wanted to know if he has any problem to celebrate the golden jubilee year of the school founded by his late family members.
He was also a minister in the state government once in his career.
They asked whether he was able to create employment opportunities for the unemployed youths in this locality during his tenure as a minister.
They also alleged that MLA discontinued Rahagiri for his personal interest.
The other allegations include distributing work orders among some people terming them as relatives and taking PCs from them and disinterest in the development of Angul stadium.
They alleged that the MLA could not establish mini stadiums in any blocks in the Angul constituency while such stadiums are coming up in each blocks.
He also didn’t take steps to improve communication and drinking water facilities in 39 villages, they said, adding that he hasn’t taken steps for a fire station at Bantala.
Besides, he didn’t show interest in setting up any Adarsh Vidyalay and girls’ hostel, they pointed out.
The retired officials also alleged that the MLA hasn’t taken steps to provide irrigation facility to farmers.
Other allegations include the MLA’s failure in ensuring the progress of Hidsingh and Bauligarh dam, though the surveys have been done already. The MLA hasn’t intervened in matters like setting up of wastage treatment plant and dumping yard, they pointed out.
They also asked why he has not taken steps to set up an ideal hospital and a cold storage making use of MLALAD and district mineral fund (DMF).
Besides, the signatory persons have also warned the MLA that the time of buying voters with money, liquor and meat is over.
When asked about the leaflets, MLA Singh termed it as a common occurrence, saying when an election approaches some groups come up with such things.
“I know the people who are behind the circulation of leaflets. They have done this with an ugly intention of tarnishing my reputation. But they would never be successful in their plan,” he said.
“I have taken many steps for developmental projects in my constituency. Steps for the remaining projects will soon be taken. Because of some technical problems the progress of some projects has stopped,” he said, adding that those people who are raising questions today will see development tomorrow.
“So they should have patience,” Singh added.
