Koraput: After illegal immigration into 21 villages of Kotia panchayat in this district, Andhra Pradesh has now claimed Jayantgiri under Nandpur block in this district as a part of Vishakhapatnam district, triggering tension among the locals.

The villagers here have strongly opposed the move by Andhra Pradesh.

A cemented plaque put up by Andhra Pradesh at Jayantgiri village of Pantalung panchayat under Nandpur block mentions that Jayantgiri is in Vishakhapatnam district.

Jayantgiri is three km away from Andhra’s border and is within Odisha. Despite this, Andhra put up a plaque in Telugu language claiming that Jayantgiri as within its territory.

While locals have protested such infringement, a retired teacher Ramchandra Pangi has opposed such act.

Former Koraput Collector and acting director of Tribal Museum Gadadhar Parida has demanded the plaque be removed immediately.
