Bhubaneswar, July 17: The second edition of the Pro-Kabaddi League organised by Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) will start at the NSCI Stadium in Mumbai, Saturday with hosts and last year’s runners-up U Mumba clashing with defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers.
Orissa kabaddi player Arabinda Khuntia will represent Puneri Paltan as the ‘right corner’ player. Pune start their campaign, July 20 against the Telegu Titans. Arabinda, who had represented the Pune side last year has been retained by the franchise at a price tag of `1,50, 000.
“This time I expect to play more matches,” said Arabinda who played only three games in the last edition. “I have the experience of playing in the first year. I have also trained under eminent coach Wazir Singh. So I am confident of a better show,” stated Arabinda over the phone, Friday.
Altogether, eight teams will be participating in the second edition. Sasmita Das of Orissa has been selected by AKFI as the technical officer of the tournament.
The prize money has been doubled this year to rupees two crore. The winners will get rupees one crore while the runners-up will receive `50,00,000.
Amrutjay- Udit triumphs
Amrutjay Mohanty of Orissa and his partner from Assam, Udit Gogoi emerged champions in the U-12 boys’ doubles of the Tennis Super Series tournament at Guwahati, Friday. They prevailed over the duo of Hasith Gummuluru from Andhra Pradesh and Aman Dahiya from Himachal Pradesh 7-5, 6-1 in the final.
