Bhubaneswar: The Housing and Urban Development Minister Pratap Jena Tuesday informed the Odisha Assembly that the government has already directed for demolition of around 200 apartments that have been erected in Bhubaneswar sans approved plans.
The Minister said this while replying to a question raised by senior Congress leader and Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati. Building plans of 1,643 apartments in Bhubaneswar have been approved.

However, a total of 487 apartments have already been declared to be illegal, of which 200 apartments will be demolished soon. Legal proceedings against 59 apartments were dropped and proceedings against 92 apartments are still sub-judice, the Minister stated.
Clarifying further on electricity connection and water supply to the illegally erected apartments, the Minister said that information in this regard is being collected by the department.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) have not demolished any illegal apartment in the city so far.
On the other hand, inaction by the enforcement squad has led to construction of such apartments in Bhubaneswar, locals alleged.
