Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday appointed senior IAS officer Asit Tripathy as new Development Commissioner following the retirement of R Balakrishnan from the post. Tripathy will also continue as the in-charge of additional chief secretary (Home).
Tripathy, a 1986 batch IAS officer, has successfully served as secretary of the Energy, Tourism and Home departments. He also worked as the executive head of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC), Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Collectors of Nuapada and Sundergarh districts.
He has administrative experience in field of criminal justice, police administration, management of security forces, industrial management, tourism promotion, export and import, infrastructure development and land revenue.
Born in Tititlagarh in Bolangir December 23, 1960, he started his career as SDO Talcher and then ADM Rourkela and later Nuapada Collector.
Besides, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has been made the new chairman of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), while Cooperation Secretary Ranjana Chopra has been appointed chairman of Odisha State Warehousing Corporation (OSWC).
Balakrishnan was heading the SPCB, whereas Sangram Keshari Mishra was the chairman of OSWC. Both the officers retired Friday.
