Bhubaneswar: A number of shops were gutted in a major fire that broke out late Tuesday night at Capital Haat in Unit-1 locality here.
According to an eyewitness, smoke was emitting from a shop at around 11.00pm. Later, the fire spread to other shops nearby.
Persons who have been most affected by the blaze are small and marginal shopkeepers. As many as eight shops including the ones of snacks and electrical items were partially damaged in the blaze.
However, two shops have been completely reduced to ashes in the major fire incident, the eyewitness stated.
On being informed by some shopkeepers about the inferno, teams of fire services personnel from Kalpana area and Lok Seva Bhawan rushed to the mishap site.

Four fire tenders were pressed to service. After striving for more than an hour, the fire-fighters doused the flames.
Exact cause behind the inferno has not been ascertained yet. A short circuit might have sparked fire leading to the mishap, a senior official in fire services department said.
Total loss of properties incurred due to the blaze will be estimated Wednesday, the senior official informed.
