Bantala: The attempts to drive Royal Bengal Tigress Sundari to the habitat of its male counterpart Mahavir for mating in the Satkosia sanctuary of Angul district is posing a serious challenge to the special teams from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the Kanha National Park, a report said.
However, the team is going ahead with its plans to bring the tigress close to the tiger. They are eagerly waiting for the moment when Sundari will come close to Mahavir and establish a relationship with the tiger.
The tigress was found at a distance of 10 km from Mahavir Friday, while it was just 3 km away Wednesday. Sometimes the tigress comes closer to the tiger, but later it moves away.
By Friday night the tiger was found in the Chuanri jungle under Tuluka beat house and Purunakote forest range while the tigress from Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh was found to have moved away into the Balikiari jungle from Sishupathar dam.
Forest officials after noticing the presence of Sundari in Balikiari have stepped up efforts with the police to protect nearby villagers from the animal’s attack. Meanwhile, the tigress from Satkosia was found at a distance of 5 km from Mahavir in Raiguda jungles.
ACCF and Satkosia Field Director, Sudarshan Panda, said that efforts are on to drive Sundari into the habitat of Mahavir.
