Sydney: Australia were bowled out for 338 in their first innings in the third Test against India at the SCG here Friday. Steve Smith (131, 226b, 16×4) was the last man to be dismissed. It was Steve Smith’s 27th Test ton and the innings marked his return to form after a poor show in the first two Tests. Other than Smith, it was Marnus Labuschgane (91) who played a good knock.
However, once Labuschgane was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja (4/62) wickets started tumbling in a heap for Australia. However, before his dismissal Labuschange and Smith put on exactly a 100 runs for the third wicket.
None of the other batsmen save Mitchell Starc (24) could make a sizeable contribution. It was Starc and Smith who took Australia past the 300-run mark. Matthew Wade (13), Cameroon Green (0), Tim Paine (1), Pat Cummins (0) and Nathan Lyon (0) all fell in quick succession.
Jadeja was well supported by Jasprit Bumrah (2/66) and Navdeep Saini (2/65). Mohammed Siraj had picked up the wicket of David Warner earlier Thursday.
