Bhubaneswar: Commissioner of Police Saumendra Priyadarshi Monday urged the denizens not to resort to panic buying in view of the 14-day state-wide lockdown starting Wednesday. Covid-19 norms went for a toss as the shops in the Capital city recorded heavy footfalls Monday.
In a video message, Priyadarshi appealed to the people that all the essential shops will remain open during the lockdown as per the directions issued by the state government. He informed the denizens through that essential shops including those selling vegetables, non-veg items, grocery items, medicine and milk will remain open of six hours between 6am till 12 noon from Monday to Friday.
“I request the citizens of the twin city to avoid panic buying Monday and Tuesday. Don’t overcrowd at the shops unnecessarily. The government has made adequate arrangements for availability of essentials during the lockdown.”
He also stated that vaccination drive will continue during lockdown. He said that there will be no restriction on the movement of people to vaccination centres. Police will facilitate the movement of vehicles for medical emergencies during the lockdown, he added.
He also appealed to the people to cooperate with cops for the successful enforcement of lockdown and avoid stepping out of homes unnecessarily during the period.
