Baby stolen from railway station rescued, 3 held

Balasore: A three-month old baby was stolen from a woman who was asleep at platform-1 in Balasore railway station in the wee hours of October 3. A complaint was lodged with railway police station in this regard.

About a week after the incident, the railway police rescued the stolen child and handed it to the district child welfare committee in the presence of its chairperson Bahirathi Barik and   members Padmalochan and Muktikant Panda Friday.

Reports said, Sita Marandi, a resident of Jaleswar area, stays at a rented house at Gudhibansa under Sahadevkhunta model police limits. She ekes out a living by doing odd jobs in the locality.

October 3, the woman could not return home and took shelter at the railway station that night.

Some miscreants stole the baby in the wee hours, but Sita was not aware of it. When she woke up, her baby was not there with her.

Following a complaint, police registered a case and examined the CCTV footage of the railway station.

Sensing trouble, the accused– P Jogi Patra of Mukundapur, his wife B Laxmi and Pandia Kisku of Shovramopur – had left the area.

Police raided various places and arrested the accused when the trio was planning to take the baby to Bihar.

The rescued baby was kept at Nirmala Sishu Bhawan at Kuruda. The woman had applied to the district child welfare committee to get her baby back.

After furnish all necessary documents at the district child welfare committee, the baby was handed over the woman.
