Malkangiri: Lack of road connectivity once again forced people to carry an elderly woman patient on a cot at Mantriput village under Korukunda block in Malkangiri district Saturday.
According to a source, the health condition of one Rogi Muduli of the village, who has been ill for the last six months, became serious Saturday morning. The family members immediately contacted an ambulance to shift her to a hospital. The ambulance came but could not reach the patient’s house due to bad road condition.
With no option left, the villagers arranged a cot, made her sleep on it and carried it on their shoulders. After covering a few kilometres in hilly terrains, they reached the main road from where the ambulance waiting for them took them to the hospital.
Incidents of patients being ferried on cots or in slings for some kilometres in treacherous hilly terrains to reach near ambulances or hospitals are being reported from most parts of the hilly areas across the state and more so in rainy season.
