Baitarani flows above danger mark

Bhandaripokhari: Due to heavy rain Friday, a flood situation has cropped up in river Baitarani in Bhadrak district. The river flowed above the danger mark at Akhuapada while water level is on the rise.

The water level rose to 17.96 metre Saturday afternoon above the danger mark at 17.83 metre.

Heavy rains lashed the Baitarani basis Friday. Akhuapada recorded 195 mm; Anandapur 171.6 mm; Somepatana 6 mm; Keonjhar 5 mm; Thakurmunda 19 mm; Jajpur 225 mm and Champua 5.6 mm.

Assistant executive engineer of the Akhuapada anicut, Shankarshan Behera, assessed that the water level may rise to 18.50 metre while it is rising by 0.26 metre every hour.

 

Musal in spateBaitarani

Kolimati: As rains lashed heavily most parts of Anandapur in Keonjhar district since Friday evening till Saturday morning, floodwater have come in river Musal. Large tracts of farmland were inundated while water entered houses. As the embankment in Kanto Purunasahi is weak, local people were panicked. It rained till 10 am. A house in Mohant Sahi in the area caved in. Meanwhile, farmers have urged the administration to assess the crop damage and make provision of assistance for them.
