Puri: Sub-Inspector Tapoi Nayak was suspended Wednesday over ‘negligence of duty’ in connection with the massive explosion which occurred two days ago on the premises of Balanga Police Station in Puri district. SP Kanwar Vishal Singh while issuing the suspension order stated that the woman cop was in charge of the Malkhana (store room) where the explosion took place Monday night.
The explosion caused massive damage to the police station. A portion of the roof and wall caved in due to the explosion. A fire broke out leading to the destruction of important documents and equipment. Luckily however, there were no casualties as was only one police personnel was present at the police station.
Following the blast, all police stations have been directed to either defuse seized explosives or store them in a safer place to prevent similar incidents in future.
The Balanga police station is now operating from a temporary building and funds will be sought soon to set up a new building, informed an official.
